Lee Westwood took yet another jab at Rory McIlroy in an ongoing LIV Golf row.
McIlroy was asked if LIV golfers would add value to the PGA Tour this week, and he responded by questioning if LIV players had brought value to their own tour.
Westwood, who has taken verbal shots at McIlroy throughout LIV’s existence, responded on TNT Sports, saying, “I heard Rory’s comments yesterday. I thought Scottie answered the question well, and Rory’s answer was just typical of him. It wasn’t well thought out.”
These comments from the Englishman did not land well with the golfing community.

McIlroy’s comments on LIV golfer’s value were reasonable. The tour is struggling for survival and had to cancel its season finale, so how much value are the players really bringing?
That was the point many fans made after hearing Westwood’s retort. One fan posted to X, “Westwood is, and always has been, a complete tool. McIlroy is honest and spot on. LIV has enhanced the net worth of (mostly) washed-up players like LW, but overall has damaged golf.”
Another fan agreed, adding, “How’s LIV doing with all these players bringing value? Don’t think anyone is doubting the quality of some of the LIV players, but if they are bringing such value, why is LIV going down the pan?”
And one fan said, “Typical of Lee. Why is he talking about the value of what LIV players bring to other tournaments, when the point that was being made was, a handful of their players were paid extortionate amounts money to play on LIV, and they are going bust.”
In his comments, Westwood defended his stance by pointing out he has been given a place in the field at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship later this year. He said that proves sponsors see value in him.
However, he went on to say that he knows the organizer of the tournament, and “he’s stuck by his friends.”
One fan was quick to point out the contradiction in these comments, posting, “Says the sponsors see value in LIV players, then at the end says the guy dishing out the invites is looking out for his mates. So which is it, did he get an invite to add value or because his pal is looking after him?”
Westwood said he had no intention of playing on the DP World Tour just months ago, but that’s been proven to be flatly false now.
One fan criticized Westwood for this: “What’s not well thought out is leaving a tour for money and saying I’ll never be back, then groveling to come back.
“Westwood will be remembered as the guy who never got it done when it mattered. Rory will be remembered as the greatest European player of all time alongside Seve.”
It’s safe to say Westwood’s comments have not gone down well with fans. That’s a point to McIlroy in this ongoing feud!
