Final Fantasy 14 has set a new release date for the Evercold expansion after Square Enix officially revealed that the DLC will be delayed. The next big expansion for the critically acclaimed MMORPG is expected to set the game back on its tracks following the mild reception of the Dawntrail expansion. Even though Dawntrail‘s post-MSQ content was beloved, its base content was heavily criticized, especially considering how strong the Endwalker expansion was. Final Fantasy 14: Evercold will embrace change, according to game director Yoshi-P. However, it seems we’ll have to wait a while longer before seeing that change.
Over the course of the weekend, Square Enix held the third and final version of this year’s FFXIV Fan Fest, this time around in Japan. These events are not only an opportunity for fans of the game to unite, but also for the company to bring new announcements to the table. According to a new report by IGN, one of the big announcements to come out of the FFXIV Fan Fest in Japan was the reveal that the Evercold expansion is getting delayed. The DLC was originally expected to be released in January 2027.
As seen in the new report, the release date for Final Fantasy 14: Evercold is now February 23, 2027. Those with early access to the content will be able to start playing on February 19, 2027. Based on the report, it doesn’t seem there is an explanation for the delay, so it’s likely only a matter of giving the team more time to polish the content. After all, players can expect a ton of new content in the upcoming expansion. The new DLC will add a brand-new storyline for players to follow.
The expansion will take players to the Fourth, one of the thirteen Reflections created by Hydaelyn during the Sundering. As was previously announced, the DLC will start The Godless Realms Saga for the MMORPG. There are also two new Jobs with Final Fantasy 14: Evercold. Revealed earlier this year, Bastion will be a new role for Tanks. During the FFXIV Fan Fest in Japan, Yoshi-P also revealed the upcoming Zephyr Job, which will be a ranged DPS that uses a crossbow and has a bird companion.

In addition to all of that, Square Enix has also announced that it is getting a massive crossover in the form of Evangelion raids for Final Fantasy 14, as part of the Evercold content. Of course, we’re all hoping that the main story being told in the new expansion is just as great as the ones in the Light and Dark saga – and there’s potential for that, as it will explore what made expansions like Shadowbringers and Endwalker so great.
The pre-orders for the Evercold expansion will open on November 4, and those who acquire it during this period will get a Wind-up Kottr Minion, as well as Halone’s Earring, which will give you an EXP boost for Jobs under level 100 (also, it’s based on the coolest of the Twelve). There’s a lot to look forward to with the new Final Fantasy 14 expansion, and even though it was delayed, we’re only a few months away from it.
