FG opens applications for 2027/2028 Commonwealth scholarships in UK

These areas include education, healthcare, economic growth and private sector development, governance and conflict, climate and the environment, water and sanitation, engineering, science and technology, food and nutrition, as well as humanitarian disasters and emergencies.

How applicants can submit their applications

Applications for the scholarship are to be completed electronically through the designated application system.

Interested candidates are required to register on the Electronic Application System, fill out the online application form and provide the requested information.

Applicants must also upload scanned copies of supporting documents, including a recent passport photograph, university academic transcripts, birth certificate and admission letters from UK universities included in their application.

The completed application must be submitted online no later than October 20, 2026.

There is also a post-submission requirement for candidates. After completing the online process, applicants are expected to generate a PDF copy of their application, download and print one hard copy, which will be required at the interview stage.

Candidates who obtained their certificates outside Nigeria are required to submit official translations and evidence of evaluation for the foreign qualifications.

The ministry urged applicants to carefully align their proposed courses and study plans with areas where their training could contribute to Nigeria’s development.

It also advised prospective candidates to consult the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for detailed information about the scholarship, eligibility conditions and selection process before submitting their applications.

The Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships are part of the UK’s wider Commonwealth scholarship programme, which provides opportunities for citizens of eligible Commonwealth countries to undertake postgraduate study and professional development in the UK.
