Their top order has been picked off cheaply in both games, and even when they’ve started well, as they did in Cardiff, the middle overs have been where it’s all fallen apart. That pattern looks set to continue against an England attack that has real variety with quicks like Jamie Overton and Sonny Baker backing up the spin of Dawson and Rashid.
England’s batting depth is really the difference-maker here. Even if the top order doesn’t fire, there’s enough further down , Banton, Jacks, Cox, to get the total home regardless of conditions or situation. That kind of cover is something Sri Lanka simply can’t match right now.
