He warned school proprietors against reopening their institutions without securing the necessary approval from the relevant authorities.
The ministry also urged operators to comply with regulations and obtain the required authorisation before commencing educational activities.
The government said sustained monitoring and enforcement were necessary to eliminate illegal school operations and protect the integrity of the state’s education system.
Three Schools Shut in Calabar Municipality
In Calabar Municipality, three schools were affected by the enforcement exercise.
They are Impact Group of Schools, located at 112 Atamunu; Gospel Beacon Academy, at 25 Etonko Street; and Divvy Bliss Schools, at 71/73 Eta Agbor, opposite the MTN office.
The closures form part of the state’s efforts to ensure that private educational institutions operate within the regulatory framework established by the Ministry of Education.
Five Schools Affected in Calabar South
Five schools were shut down in Calabar South Local Government Area.
The affected institutions are Warriors Seed Academy, located at 8 Engo Street, off New Airport. Children of Promise Christian School, at 4 Ekong Lane, off New Airport. Future Amazing International Schools, at 21 Amika Utuk, off Goldie. Glad Tidings Academy, at 15 Ene Ita Street, and Panorama International Schools, at 10 Jebs Layout.
The government has directed affected proprietors not to resume operations without official authorisation.
Odukpani Records Seven Closures
Odukpani Local Government Area recorded seven school closures during the latest enforcement operation.
The affected institutions are De-Royal Academy School, Esine Ufot, Adiabo. Maria Assumpta Nursery/Primary School, Esine Ufot. Success Kids Nursery/Primary School, Esine Ufot, Adiabo. Delightsome International School, Akim-Akim. Sparkling Academy, Akim-Akim, Qua Clan. Goodness Academy, Ayuk Aba, Akim-Akim, and Joanleff Excellent Institute, Old Pamol Clinic, Akim-Akim Road.
The closures bring the enforcement exercise to communities where the ministry is seeking to ensure that schools meet the standards required for the provision of education.
Five Institutions Closed in Akamkpa
In Akamkpa Local Government Area, five schools were shut down for operating without the required approval.
They are Creative Brain International School, Abi Mfam Camp 2. St. Luck’s Anglican Nursery/Primary School, Ndingane. Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Aningeje. Hot Brain Academy, Abiati, and Armour Christian International School, Abiati Road.
The ministry reiterated its call on school proprietors to comply with applicable regulations and secure the necessary approval before opening their institutions.
Government Vows to Sustain Crackdown
The latest closures represent another phase of the Cross River State Government’s efforts to address the operation of unapproved schools.
The government has pledged to continue monitoring educational institutions across all 18 local government areas, with the stated objectives of enforcing compliance, safeguarding pupils and upholding standards in the education sector.
Odey maintained that schools affected by the exercise must remain closed until the appropriate authorisation is obtained, warning that violations of the directive would attract sanctions.
The ministry’s enforcement campaign is expected to continue as the state government seeks to bring school operators within the established regulatory framework and strengthen oversight of educational institutions across Cross River State.
