Cincinnati Reds' Brady Singer Inconsistent Once Again vs. Cardinals

The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals went head-to-head on Friday night in a National League Central matchup. Both teams have had up and down seasons, but Cincinnati has been especially inconsistent in recent action. Brady Singer, who has endured a challenging season across 12 starts, struggled once again against the Cardinals.

Singer allowed four runs (one earned) across four innings of work. He was able to record six strikeouts, but Singer walked three and surrendered four hits. It was not a terrible performance, but Singer was inconsistent to say the least. It was not all his fault since three runs were unearned, however.

The 29-year-old has endured ups and downs in recent years, but he has been reliable. The Reds acquired Singer before the 2025 campaign. In 2025, he turned in a 4.03 ERA across 32 starts. In 2024 with the Kansas City Royals, Singer had a 3.71 ERA.

While he has not been the best pitcher in baseball by any means, the Reds thought they knew what they were getting with Singer. So far during the 2026 season, however, the right-handed pitcher’s performance has been especially underwhelming.

Singer now holds a 5.89 ERA across 55 innings of work on the mound. He only has 42 strikeouts during that span as well.

The Reds know that Singer needs to be better in order for the team to perform at a more consistent overall level. He is an established veteran who is more than capable of making a significant impact.

Singer could still bounce back this year, but his performance has been lackluster overall. He has not surrendered two earned runs or less since April 25. He has only worked into the 6th inning once during that span as well.

As mentioned, Singer only allowed one earned run on Friday. He did not have too much help from his team. Nevertheless, the right-hander has been inconsistent this year for the most part.

Reds Playing Mediocre Baseball

The Reds have been about as mediocre as it gets. They currently trail the Cardinals, and if they lose they will fall to 31-31 overall this season. Additionally, Cincinnati is 5-5 overall in its past 10 games.

The Reds are not a bad baseball team. They feature a talented roster with potential, but injuries and underperformance have impacted matters for the ball club.

The Reds will attempt to turn things around sooner rather than later.
