5 takeaways from Day 10 of Broncos training camp

The injuries just won’t stop for the Denver Broncos.

Broncos backup offensive lineman Michael Deiter was carted off the practice field on Tuesday with an undisclosed injury. With starting center Luke Wattenberg and primary backup Alex Forsyth already injured, Denver is now down to just versatile backup lineman Calvin Throckmorton and undrafted rookie Gavin Ortega at center.

Despite three injuries at the position, Denver coach Sean Payton does not seem to be concerned.

“We’ll work through it,” Payton said after Tuesday’s practice. “We have guys that are flexible. We’ll be fine. We’ll be good.”

Quinn Meinerz and rookie guard Kage Casey could be among the team’s fallback options at center. Throckmorton and Ortega will likely get a lot of reps in the team’s preseason opener on Friday.

Here are five other quick takeaways after Tuesday’s practice.

1. Broncos injury report: Forsyth (unknown) and tight end Caleb Lohner (knee) did not practice on Tuesday. Deiter was carted off the field. Denver running back J.K. Dobbins (soft tissue) was back in pads and made it clear to media members that he’s healthy. Wattenberg (unknown), wide receiver Marvin Mims (unknown), receiver Jaylen Waddle (strain), offensive lineman Alex Palczewski (unknown), tight end Nate Adkins (unknown), receiver Michael Bandy (unknown) and outside linebacker Dasan McCullough (unknown) worked on a side field.

2. Broncos breaking out throwback uniform on TNF: Rejoice, NFL fans! Denver and the Seattle Seahawks announced Tuesday that they will wear their beautiful throwback uniforms when they face off on Thursday Night Football on Oct. 15. The Broncos will wear their throwback orange jersey with a “D” logo helmet, and the Seahawks will rock their throwback light blue jersey with the old logo in Week 6. Denver quarterback Bo Nix is 5-0 in the team’s throwback look.

3. Broncos stadium updateand more: Owner and CEO Greg Penner spoke to reporters during Tuesday’s practice. Some of the notable takeaways from his media availability included comments about wanting Nix with the team long-term and the goal of having the stadium ready by 2031, among other topics. The team wants a retractable roof that will allow skydivers to continue performing at home games, and the team has prioritized using natural grass. Burnham Yard remains the team’s preferred site to build a stadium, and Penner said potentially using personal seat licenses (PSLs) is the “furthest thing” on their mind right now. As for the team on the field, Penner reiterated the team’s goal of competing for championships and winning Super Bowls.

4. Broncos CB Riley Moss continues to impress: Another day, another strong showing from Moss. The fourth-year cornerback seems to be in firm command of the No. 2 cornerback spot across from Pat Surtain, so 2025 first-round draft pick Jahdae Barron might be looking at another season as a rotational backup. Moss is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and he’ll be looking to get paid in 2027 — by Denver or another club.

5. Broncos WR Pat Bryant a camp standout: Bryant has arguably been the standout of training camp this summer. Bryant turned heads again on Tuesday, and he appears to be the top candidate for WR3 duties behind Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle this fall. Denver pass rusher Nik Bonitto was asked after practice if any offensive players have stood out this summer, and he immediately mentioned Bryant. “He’s gonna be a player for sure,” Bonitto said.

The Broncos have another practice scheduled for Wednesday (closed to the public) before traveling to Georgia on Thursday ahead of a preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday.
