Everything Deion Sanders said after Colorado's Week 4 loss to Baylor

The Colorado Buffaloes could not build on their fourth-quarter touchdown drive Saturday, falling 23-13 to Baylor in Waco in the Big 12 opener.

Head coach Deion Sanders turned to Isaac Wilson at quarterback after halftime with Colorado trailing 10-3. Wilson led a 95-yard drive capped by a 17-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Williams, tying the game at 13 with 11:04 remaining. Baylor answered with a go-ahead touchdown before adding a 54-yard field goal as Colorado fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Here’s everything Coach Prime said after Colorado’s loss to Baylor.

Deion Sanders: “It was a decision I made because I was trying to get us going.”

“That’s the one thing we have to understand with that position, quarterback, you don’t have to be the guy.”

“It was a decision that we made. I’ll take the responsibility. It was a decision that I made because I was trying to get us going. That’s it. Just based on, let’s go. We got to get going. We got to score. We got to score some points.”

“Isaac [Wilson] came in a little shaky, nervous. Then he calmed down a little bit and got us down the field. Did his job. That is all we want. And one thing I told him: you don’t have to be the man. Just get the ball to the man, and we’re good. Because we got some guys. I think you saw that today. We got some guys.”

Deion Sanders: “He’s down. I don’t know about for the season, but he’s down.”

“The first thing I think about when I see a guy like that, can he get a medical? That’s the first thing I think, because he’s so valuable to the team, and I don’t want him to go out like that. I don’t want him to go out like that, because that’s one of the things he said last night. ‘You’re going to have to pull me off the field.'”

“Like, He’s going, ‘I’m giving everything I got’. And he’s that kind of guy.”

Martinez left the game with two tackles and was seen after the game in a walking boot on his right foot while using crutches.

Deion Sanders: “Yeah, he’s doing good. I saw him on the sideline cheering up his teammates and rooting them up.”

“And he’s a warrior. I mean, he was down there like, ‘You’re not bringing out a cart. You’re not bringing out a cart. I’m getting up and walking off.’ And I admire that from him so much.”

“That’s why he has an L on the shirt. He’s one of the leaders amongst the team.”

Moore left late in the second quarter after a hard hit from Baylor linebacker Travion Barnes. The receiver was ruled out after the hit, which drew criticism from Colorado fans about a missed targeting call.

Deion Sanders: “We’re better than this. I know it was a tremendous letdown last week [vs. Northwestern], but we flushed it. We found out last night that [Northwestern] is better than you think. But we’re better than this.”

“It seems as though we’re better than our opponents, but the score does not dictate that.”

“And that’s the fascinating thing about it. We’ve got to find our why.”
