WSU rocking traditional colors for Apple Cup

The wait is almost over; Washington State is playing football this week! Well, kinda. They play Sunday; depending on what calendar you’re using, it could still be this week.

A week one Apple Cup matchup on a Sunday may be the furthest the game could get from its tradition. However, what’s not going against tradition is the uniforms the Cougs will be wearing on Sunday!

Not much of a surprise here. A traditional game calls for traditional colors. Plus, this is the same set WSU wore in their latest Apple Cup victory in Seattle in 2024 down to the facemask color.

Since 2017, the Cougars have worn this exact combo three times. The first two times were very forgetable, in the 2017 Holiday Bowl loss to Michigan State and the 2020 loss at USC. The color combination of a crimson helmet, a white jersey, and a crimson facemask has been worn a total of seven times. The four others were worn with a crimson facemask as opposed to the white facemask WSU is wearing this week. All together, the crimson/white/crimson combo is a middling 2-5. The Cougars did rock crimson/white/crimson last season at Ole Miss with the crimson facemask.

Heading into the 2026 season, the crimson shell has a record of 16-18 dating back to 2017. When paired with a white facemask, it’s 3-7. The white jersey boasts an 18-31 record, having only been worn on the road, while the crimson pants hold a 19-17 record. Helmets with a white facemask have a 17-20 record, and the white WSU logo is 20-24.
