Oba Femi is a ring name. His birth name is Isaac Odugbesan. The name Oba Femi is his professional wrestling identity, and he goes by “The Ruler” as his in-ring nickname. He debuted on WWE NXT programming in November 2022 and has been performing under the Oba Femi name ever since.
He Was a Track and Field Star at the University of Alabama
Before wrestling, Oba was a decorated track and field athlete, per Complex. He competed for the University of Lagos in his native Nigeria before earning a student-athlete scholarship to the United States. At the University of Alabama, Oba specialized in shot put and won three Southeastern Conference championships in the event. Oba defeated The Beast Incarnate inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam 2026 Night 1 on Saturday, August 1, 2026, marking the third and possibly final chapter in their heated 2026 rivalry. The pair first met at WrestleMania 42 in April 2026, when Oba pinned Brock decisively and left many fans believing The Beast had retired, per Bleacher Report. Brock later returned to win a rematch at Clash in Italy, before Oba took the trilogy at SummerSlam. After their SummerSlam Hell in a Cell showdown, Brock called Oba “the future” of WWE, per Forbes.
He Is a Two-Time NXT Champion
Before making his main roster debut, Oba dominated WWE’s NXT brand. He is a two-time NXT Champion and a former NXT North American Champion, and he holds the record for the longest NXT North American Championship reign at 272 days, making him the youngest wrestler in history to hold that title. Oba also won the 2023 NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament, the 2024 Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge and the 2026 King of the Ring tournament. He made his main roster debut at the Royal Rumble on January 31, 2026.
