New Dungeons & Dragons Release Announced With Preorders Live Now

Dungeons & Dragons is about to change the game with the release of D&D: World of Warcraft, and the book itself won’t be the only product to bring the two franchises together. For starters, dungeon masters can invest in a new Icecrown Citadel map pack and a couple of miniature sets to make running encounters at the tabletop a bit easier and more immersive.

Those might not be as attractive to players as they are to DMs, but the upcoming releases don’t stop there. The latest reveal should have a wider appeal, bringing a new set of officially licensed dice to D&D.

Dice manufacturer Sirius is getting in on the fun with some dice sets themed around World of Warcraft, officially bearing the Dungeons & Dragons x World of Warcraft license. Alliance fans can invest in a blue “For the Alliance” set, while those loyal to the Horde can opt for the red “For the Horde” counterpart.

Both sets retail for $39.99, so they’re not quite as affordable as picking up a plastic case of Chessex dice at your local game store. They are, however, quite attractive, with sharp edges, glittering flakes, and rich swirls of dye. The highest number on each die is replaced with the symbol of either the Alliance or the Horde, making their licensed nature explicit rather than implied.

Beyond the Alliance and Horde dice sets, Sirius has several more Dungeons & Dragons x World of Warcraft products available for pre-order, although the others currently lack product images. An Icons of Azeroth “Treasure Pack” will offer themed dice sets in a blind pack format, undercutting the premium Alliance and Horde releases with a $19.99 price point. Mini dice cups are also available as $19.99 blind packs. For the true high rollers, a “Collectible Gargantuan d20” depicting an Orc Grunt and a Human Footman is available for $54.99.

All the Dungeons & Dragons x World of Warcraft products are currently listed as backordered, but it’s still possible to pre-order them all to ship whenever they become available. While it might be best to wait for pictures of the ones that currently lack them, it should already be easy enough to figure out if the Alliance and Horde dice sets are personally worth the investment.

If you’re not a fan of World of Warcraft, it should be pretty easy to sit out this next wave of D&D releases as a whole. If the world of Azeroth sparks any interest, this could still be a good opportunity to check it out in the D&D format, but buying any accessories can probably wait until a few D&D: World of Warcraft sessions are under your belt.
