Which country has won the most World Cup titles?

In the 22 previous editions of the World Cup, there have been just eight nations who have had the privilege of hoisting the trophy.

During the first edition in 1930, host Uruguay defeated South American rival Argentina 4-2 in the final to become the inaugural world champions.

Since then, five nations have won the tournament in front of their home fans, including Italy (1934), England (1966), West Germany (1974), Argentina (1978) and France (1998).

Most recently, Argentina took the crown during the 2022 edition in Qatar, defeating defending champion France in one of the most thrilling finals in the competition’s long history.

Now, La Albiceleste looks to become the first repeat champions of the tournament since Brazil, who achieved this feat in 1962.

Brazil has the most titles of any country with five, but hasn’t won since the 2002 edition in Japan and South Korea.
