Florida men’s basketball enters the 2026-27 season with arguably the nation’s most talented frontcourt, and Sports Illustrated’s latest player rankings only add to the hype.
SI’s ranking of the top 76 players in men’s college basketball ahead of the new season has three Gators among the top 15: Thomas Haugh, Alex Condon and Rueben Chinyelu. Florida’s three most dynamic players ranked that highly give the No. 1-ranked Gators another reason to enter the season with national championship expectations.
Haugh is the highest-ranked Gator on SI’s list after electing to return to Gainesville despite generating significant NBA draft interest.
The 6-foot-9 forward’s versatility has made him one of the most valuable pieces on Todd Golden’s roster. Haugh can defend multiple positions, rebound and provide consistent scoring while continuing to develop as a perimeter shooter.
SI’s Tim Capurso pointed to the same traits that made Haugh a potential lottery pick in the 2026 NBA draft as reasons for ranking him among the nation’s top three players. He averaged more than a steal and a block per game last season and has improved as a floor spacer throughout his college career.
With another step forward offensively, Haugh could find himself among the leading candidates for national player of the year honors.
Condon joins Haugh inside the top 10 at No. 8 after establishing himself as one of the country’s most complete frontcourt players. The Florida big man averaged 15.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game last season, making him the only returning high-major player to reach all three marks.
Condon’s ability to impact the game in multiple ways has made him an essential piece of Florida’s high-powered offense. His numbers came despite struggling from beyond the arc compared with his previous production.
If Condon can rediscover his perimeter shot while maintaining his production elsewhere, SI believes he could enter the national player-of-the-year conversation.
Rounding out Florida’s trio is Chinyelu, who checks in at No. 13.
While Haugh and Condon provide plenty of offensive versatility, Chinyelu’s presence around the basket adds another dimension for Florida. He ranked among the top five nationally in both offensive and defensive rebounding percentage last season.
His combination of rebounding, physicality, and defensive versatility has established him as one of the nation’s top centers.
With Haugh, Condon, and Chinyelu all returning, Florida will enter the season with three of SI’s top 13 players in college basketball and a frontcourt capable of anchoring another run at a national championship.
