When can we expect Bears RT Darnell Wright to sign contract extension?

The Chicago Bears have rebuilt their offensive line over the past two seasons, but there was a time when right tackle Darnell Wright was the only bright spot on what was then one of the weaker units in the NFL.

Over the course of three seasons, Wright has quietly established himself as one of the best right tackles in the league, and he figures to be a long-term factor in the team’s future success. Wright, selected 10th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and he’s ripe for a contract extension.

It feels more like a “when” not “if” the Bears are going to get something done and lock down one of their key pieces on offense. And it sounds like that could be happening soon. According to Bears insider Courtney Cronin, we should expect it in the next month or so.

“I think it will be done before training camp,” Cronin said on ESPN 1000’s Waddle & Silvy. “That’s typically when they do these. They did Cole Kmet‘s around then, did DJ Moore‘s. The team wants to extend him. They’re in talks. There’s no rush to do it, I wouldn’t say, but I think this is a no-brainer.”

Wright has proven to be instrumental to the offense’s success in just one year under Ben Johnson, so there’s little doubt that the second-year head coach is going to ensure one of his key offensive lineman is secured for the foreseeable future. Now, we wait.
