While there’s still quite a bit of time to go until the end of the year, anime fans across the board already have their sights set on 2027. The upcoming year is already packed to the brim with exciting releases, and it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest years for anime in recent history, especially with multiple major franchises eyeing theatrical releases.
Hit series like One Piece, Kaiju No. 8, Haikyuu, Medalist, The Apothecary Diaries, Bocchi the Rock, and potentially even Demon Slayer and Solo Leveling are all taking to theaters in 2027, and fans are already seated. And, if this wasn’t enough already, another major frontrunner has also just joined the list.
Spy x Family Announces Season 4 And New Movie For 2027
Nearly two years after the release of Season 3, Spy x Family has finally been renewed for a fourth season, which is expected to release in 2027. The announcement was made at the Spy x Family Anime Extra Mission II event held in Tokyo on November 8. At the same time, Spy x Family also announced its return to theaters in 2027 with a brand-new, yet-to-be-named movie.
An exact release window or date has yet to be locked down for either Season 4 or the movie. That said, the announcement was accompanied by a new poster for Season 4 created by Satoshi Kadowaki, who will be coming on as the character designer for the upcoming season.
Wit Studio’s Satoshi Kadowaki has most notably served as the Chief Animation Director for multiple episodes of Attack on Titan, making him quite an exciting new addition to Spy x Family’s production staff. Of course, much like previous seasons and Spy x Family: Code White, Season 4 and the upcoming movie will be jointly produced by Wit Studio and CloverWorks.
Assuming the upcoming season runs for a single cour like Season 3, which adapted about 26 chapters of the manga, Season 4 of Spy x Family will likely at least adapt the Term Finals Arc, which introduced Professor Authen, the Love and War Arc, which dives into Henry and Martha’s tragic past, and the Term Break Arc, which is set to drop some major revelations about Anya’s past as well as the series’ main antagonist. All in all, things are expected to get truly exciting in Season 4 of Spy x Family, though the movie will still very likely be the real star of 2027.
Spy x Family’s Next Movie Will Be One of 2027’s Biggest Releases

Taking into consideration the tough competition at the box office in 2027, it may be easy to dismiss Spy x Family’s upcoming movie. One Piece’s God Valley movie is all but confirmed for Summer 2027, while multiple reports place Solo Leveling: Beyond the System and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 also in 2027. Surrounded by giants like these with worldwide cult followings, Spy x Family may look like it stands no chance at competing in the box office, but it could end up holding its own ground.
While it may have been three long years since Spy x Family Code: White came out, its success is impossible to forget. Besides being loved by fans and critics alike, the film grossed $95.7 million worldwide and was even the fourth highest-grossing Japanese movie in 2024. There’s truly no reason why Spy x Family’s upcoming film can’t recreate that success. Regardless of whether it’s a canon movie or another original story like Code: White, Spy x Family’s proven charm is enough to draw fans to theaters again in 2027.
Spy x Family
Created by Tatsuya Endo, Spy X Family is an action-adventure comedy anime that follows the misadventures of a found family with unique quirks. The story follows spy Twilight (known as Loid Forger), who, while on assignment, builds a fake family to get closer to his target. Unbeknownst to him, his new family carries their quirks. His wife, Yor, is a kind but deadly assassin, while his daughter, Anya, has telepathic powers – and is the only one who knows their secrets.
