WAFCON 2026: Oshoala apologises for Super Falcons’ shock loss to Malawi

Asisat Oshoala has apologised to Nigerians following the Super Falcons’ disappointing defeat to Malawi, DAILY POST reports.

The defending champions fell to a 3-2 defeat against the Scorchers in their opening fixture at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday night.

Malawi got their goals through Tembi Chawinga (brace), and Tabitha Chawinga.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, and substitute Uchenna Kanu were on target for the Super Falcons.

Oshoala begged soccer loving Nigerians for forgiveness after the game.

“We are sorry for losing the opening game to Malawi,” Oshoala told reporters after the pulsating encounter.

Oshoala further said the defeat is a wake up call for the Super Falcons.

The former Barcelona star declared that the Super Falcons must work hard to win their next game.

“Smaller nations are closing the gap, but it’s also a wake-up call for Nigeria. We have to understand that other teams want to win this trophy as well,” she added.

“It’s still a long competition, and all we need to do is prepare well for the next game.”

The Super Falcons will face the Copper Queens of Zambia in their next Group C fixture on Saturday night.
