Fort Worth Country Day football coach Keith Burns has resigned midway through the season, days before the Falcons are scheduled to play TMI Episcopal in San Antonio.

School athletics officials confirmed Burns’ resignation Tuesday, Oct. 13, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. The reason for his departure is unclear.

“Coach Keith Burns resigned, and it would not be our place to speak for his reasoning,” Country Day athletics said in a statement to the newspaper. “We are grateful for the years of leadership with our team.”

Offensive coordinator TJ Millweard will serve as interim head coach for the rest of the season.

The Falcons are 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Southwest Preparatory Conference Class 3A play. They lost 51-12 to Arlington Oakridge on Friday, Oct. 9.

Millweard will make his interim head coaching debut Friday, Oct. 16, when Country Day travels to San Antonio to play TMI Episcopal.

Burns joined Country Day in 2021 and compiled a 31-21 record. In 2025, he led the Falcons to a 5-0 district record and an appearance in the championship game.

Burns has more than 35 years of coaching experience at the high school, college and professional levels. He previously coached special teams for the Oakland Raiders, where his unit set a record for blocked punts. In 1998, he was a finalist for the Broyles Award, which recognizes college football’s top assistant coach, while at Arkansas.
