Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the 2027 University of Edinburgh Mastercard Scholarship, applicants should:

  • Meet the University of Edinburgh’s academic requirements for an eligible postgraduate programme.
  • Generally hold the equivalent of a UK Upper Second-Class Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Have experienced significant barriers to education, including social, financial, personal or practical barriers.
  • Have completed an undergraduate degree and be able to provide the degree certificate and official final transcript by November 19, 2026.
  • Be a citizen and resident of, or hold refugee status in, a Sub-Saharan African country.
  • Demonstrate leadership and community service experience.
  • Show experience or a strong ambition to contribute to addressing the climate crisis.
  • Be aged 35 or under as of September 1, 2027.
  • Not have previously completed a postgraduate degree.
  • Not be enrolled at or applying to another university while receiving the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship.

The programme particularly welcomes applications from female scholars, refugees and displaced persons, and applicants with disabilities.

How To Apply

  3. Invited applicants must complete the Applicant Declaration Form by October 19, 2026.
  4. Complete the Postgraduate Assessment and Scholarship Main Application Form.
  5. Submit the main scholarship application by November 19, 2026.
  6. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified of their admission decision by early February.
