The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has stressed the importance of optimising electricity supply as a critical driver of Nigeria’s industrialisation and socio-economic development during the maiden Distinguished Alumni Lecture organised by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
The lecture, held on Wednesday, August 5, was delivered by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Engr. Jennifer Adighije.
Speaking on the theme of optimised electricity for national development, Adighije highlighted the pivotal role of reliable power supply in accelerating Nigeria’s industrial growth, fostering innovation, and enhancing the country’s global competitiveness.
She noted that a stable and efficient electricity sector remains fundamental to economic transformation, urging stakeholders to embrace practical solutions that will improve power generation, transmission, and distribution across the country.
The event brought together leaders from government, industry, academia, and members of the university community to examine strategies for leveraging reliable electricity to drive sustainable national development.
According to UNILAG, the lecture provided a platform for robust discussions on the future of Nigeria’s power sector and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to fostering knowledge exchange and industry collaboration through its Distinguished Alumni Lecture series.
