Tyson Bagent’s agent deserves a huge raise for manufacturing Ravens trade rumors
The last time we saw Chicago Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent play meaningful football, he was busy self-combusting (87 passing yards on 12 completions, two interceptions) in a humiliating 31-7 road loss to the Green Bay Packers in early October. If you thought, “Who on Earth would willingly trade for a quarterback like that?” to save their season, you’d be fully justified.
That’s what makes the Baltimore Ravens‘ reported “interest” in Bagent after Lamar Jackson’s potential season-ending thumb injury so perplexing. Yes, there’s an obvious connection here, as Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle coached Bagent in 2025 when he was still with the Bears. And yes, it makes sense that the Ravens would be interested in acquiring a quarterback to try to keep them afloat while their franchise player recovers.
But why would the Ravens think that quarterback could be Bagent, of all people? Why would they surrender any draft capital of notable value for a quarterback who, to this stage, is clearly average at best and replacement-level at worst? Even with Jackson and his regular backup, Tyler Huntley, hurt, Bagent just doesn’t seem worth the trouble for the Ravens to me.
The only way these rumors make sense is that Bagent’s agent immediately put the word out about the Doyle connection in the wake of Jackson’s injury. Why? Because it was a layup to start rehabilitating his client’s reputation after his last disaster game. Think of these Bagent-Ravens rumors that way, and you’ll understand why seemingly everyone wasted no time circling the wagons, getting this information out there:
From @GMFB: #Ravens QB Lamar Jackson (thumb) could be out for the season, Snoop Huntley (toe) is out for the foreseeable future, and Joe Fagnano is next up. What does the future hold for Baltimore? pic.twitter.com/fSpQbNizKt

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the Ravens are desperate enough to give the Bears something valuable for a middling quarterback like Bagent. But I don’t see the logic as it stands. So, kudos to Bagent’s agent for doing their job. You got people talking about your client in public in a really meaningful way. If a trade never manifests, maybe that’s all that matters here.
