The FSU baseball program has landed is first transfer of the offseason, and it fills multiple needs for the Seminoles. Former FAMU Rattler Jackson McKenzie announced his commitment on Tuesday, revealing the news on Instagram.
McKenzie was a two-way player at FAMU, starting 35 games in the field as their designated hitter and first baseman, with 14 appearances on the pitching mound as a reliever. He is a lefty pitcher and hitter, a major need for FSU this offseason. He is the brother of FSU softball player Shelby McKenzie.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder hit .397 with a .516 on-base percentage and a .817 slugging percentage. He finished with 12 home runs, 13 doubles, 52 RBI, and 36 runs. He walked 26 times and struckout 34 times. He was named to the All-SWAC First Team at designated hitter.
He worked exclusively out of the bullpen as a pitcher, posting a 7.55 ERA over 31 innings. In 14 appearances, he allowed 26 hits with opponents hitting .224, with 17 walks and 27 strikeouts. He was tied for second on the team with three saves.
McKenzie is entering his final year of eligibility and has experience at the power conference level. The Pace, Florida product spent his freshman season at Mississippi State, hitting .188 in 16 at-bats before transferring to Gulf Coast State College, where he played in 45 games and hit .303.
