In the booming scene of monster-taming and battling in the 1990s and 2000s, primarily Millennial audiences knew that, while Pokemon may have had the better games, Digimon reigned supreme for anime quality. Its Toei Animation stories typically followed a more intently serialized structure, with room for darker interludes, with the greatest and darkest of all being season 3, Digimon Tamers. The series already made headlines recently, particularly for its dub getting a highly-demanded HD remaster and Blu-ray release this past August. But for those perhaps not keeping up, the more intriguing news comes with the original subbed Blu-ray coming next.
Digimon Tamers kept much of its darker themes, particularly near the end of its run in the dub, but it significantly changed dialogue and characterization, alongside other content tweaks, of which many fans might not be aware. The subbed Blu-ray release was confirmed by Discotek Media last month to be coming on November 24, 2026, with pre-orders available now via
mediaOCD. For fans of Chiaki J. Konaka’s work who may have already seen the series through other means, this will be the best way to experience the original Digimon Tamers as originally intended, while viewers who originally experienced the dub may find this will renew their love for the franchise once more.
Digimon Tamers’ True Version Is Getting Its Definitive Release In 1 Month
For the early birds who take advantage of the lower pricing in the pre-order period, Digimon Tamers‘ subbed Blu-ray release will be a significant treat for anime fans growing up in the Y2K era. It’s got the boldest, most mind-bending saga of the Digimon TV filmography, turning from a world of card game fans and casual gamers discovering a way for their favorite digital monsters to live with them, to discovering a parallel world these creatures call home. Soon enough, though, Digimon Tamers would reveal the Digital World is besieged by a manmade program which darkly evolved into a sentient force of entropy crossing over onto Earth.
Originally released in April 2001 on Fuji TV before getting its edited English-language dub later that year, Digimon Tamers differed largely from the seasons of Digimon Adventure that came before it. Rather than focusing on the adventures of the DigiDestined in what broadly started as an isekai before becoming a world-hopping epic across its first two seasons, Digimon Tamers’ continuity is largely separate aside from shared concepts and creatures. But for those seeking primary differences, get ready to notice slight naming tweaks (Henry Wong being originally Lee Jianliang) and different, less corny dialogue in the original, alongside Kōji Wada’s absolute banger of an opening theme, “The Biggest Dreamer.”
The Good News Keeps Coming For Digimon Fans In 2026
For those who missed yesterday’s announcement, Digimon’s card game franchise is also setting up a big release by coming to mobile platforms for players looking to experience its gameplay and a brand-new story mode. Named Digimon Alysion, the series is set within the world of the promotional Digimon Liberator webtoon, introducing new cards, as they experience a new adventure playing as Kanata Hondo as she becomes a Tamer, blending a casual story-driven adventure for newcomers. It’ll also feature a competition-friendly environment for TCG veterans seeking the thrill of a real challenge, with ranked matches and tournaments.
While some may already have been aware of Digimon Tamers getting its Blu-ray release this November, Digimon Alysion keeps the ball rolling into the end of the year. Pre-registration is open NOW through the App Store and Google Play Store with its tentative launch date currently listed as December 23, 2026. Soon enough, players worldwide will get to become Digimon Tamers all on their own, adding a beloved chapter of franchise history to their media collection while making a name for themselves online through a new way to experience the TCG.
The Digimon franchise, created in 1997, encompasses digital pets, anime, manga, films, video games, and a trading card game, all centering on creatures called Digimon who inhabit a parallel “Digital World.” The series typically follows young humans and their Digimon partners battling threats and evolving through various forms.
