Titans' Marcus Harris poised to solidify nickelback role in 2026

One of the questions many had about the Tennessee Titans‘ new-look secondary heading into offseason team activities was who would man the nickelback role in 2026, and some wondered whether second-year cornerback Marcus Harris could be the guy.

Harris had a solid rookie season, working his way into a starting role before an injury cut it short late in the season. Now healthy, Harris made it clear that he is working hard to solidify that position now and in training camp.

“It’s been very exciting. I’ve actually sat down with Gus and watched a little bit of past nickels that he’s coached. And then talked to T.O. about it a little bit and then just about the success that the nickels have had in this system. So it was very exciting.”

Harris was a bit of a surprise in 2025 and was the Titans‘ best cornerback for a significant part of his rookie season. At 5-foot-11, the rangy young cornerback lacked the traditional skill set that many point to for the slot corner role, but he believes he could fit in with the successful nickels in Robert Saleh’s defense under the tutelage of Gus Bradley.

Now healthy, he will have every opportunity to grab that position in the minicamp and training camp, and hopefully, he will help transform the Titans into a dominant group in 2026.
