Down to their final three outs, the Tampa Bay Rays rallied to keep their season alive with a 4-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4.
In extra innings, Cooper Pratt’s solo home run appeared like it would be the signature moment of the World Series, giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead. However, Tampa Bay battled back with an inspired bottom of the 12th inning.
The Rays took advantage of an error as each of their first five hitters reached base, allowing Tampa Bay to walk it off. The heroes were Johnny DeLuca, whose single tied the game, and Ben Williamson, whose pinch-hit single ended the game and extended the series.
Both teams pitched extremely well, holding the opposing offense down throughout the game with their top arms. In the end, it was two Brewers errors that led to two Rays runs, one by David Hamilton and another by Joey Ortiz, which opened the door for Tampa Bay’s struggling offense.
Tampa Bay now avoids becoming the first team to get swept in the World Series since 2012, and now they look to make history tomorrow night. No team in the World Series has ever forced a Game 6 after going down 3-0.
The Brewers will send Jacob Misiorowski to the mound, hoping the expected Cy Young winner can end the series. The Rays, meanwhile, used their projected Game 5 starter, Nick Martinez, in Game 4, so their pitching plan is still to be determined.
