Tim Burton’s Sci-Fi Fantasy Masterpiece Is Officially a Halloween Streaming Hit

Production has finally come to an end on Netflix’s perfect spooky season series, Wednesday. Jenna Ortega‘s titular teen psychic has faced all manner of dangers in her first two years at Nevermore Academy, but will face her most chaotic mystery yet in a third season that some are predicting will be the show’s last. The staff and students of Nevermore and the rest of the Addams Family will be back for the third season, which is expanding the cast to even include the brilliant Eva Green as Morticia’s long-missing sister, Ophelia.

As exciting as this news was for fans of Netflix’s best gothic teen series, it doesn’t change the fact that this Halloween is missing its slice of Wednesday​​​​​​. But for those who wish for the Tim Burton executive-produced streaming giant to return as soon as possible, there are many of his other beloved works proving popular this spooky season. This includes his acclaimed blend of Beauty and the Beast and Frankenstein, Edward Scissorhands.

At the time of writing, Edward Scissorhands is one of the ten most popular movies on Disney+ in the U.S. Danny Elfman‘s beautifully haunting score and the film’s genius tagline (“His story will touch you, even though he can’t.”) are the stuff of cinema legend, but the movie also marks the first collaboration between Burton and Johnny Depp, who would go on to make eight movies in total together. Arguably Burton’s most brutal film, Sleepy Hollow, was an adaptation of Washington Irving‘s 1820 short story, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Now, that same short story is being brought back to life via the debut novel by filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer. Hollow, a feminist reimagining of Irving’s short story, has tapped Sydney Sweeney to star as Katrina Van Tassel, who is trapped in a love triangle between the brash Brom Bones and the intellectual Ichabod Crane.
