“They’re Hoping SC Never Fires Him”: Fans React As Florida HC Jon Sumrall Heaps Praise On Shane Beamer’s Team

Jon Sumrall and the Florida Gators need to bounce back after getting upset by Missouri last Saturday, and the SEC powerhouse can do that against the struggling South Carolina Gamecocks and embattled head coach Shane Beamer. Ahead of the showdown, Sumrall actually praised Beamer, saying that the Gamecocks would be a formidable test.

“They’re the best talent team that we have played to date…They’ve got NFL guys everywhere… It’s going to be a really formidable test because they got dudes,” he said.

“They’re the best talent team that we have played to date…They’ve got NFL guys everywhere… It’s going to be a really formidable test because they got dudes,” he said.

However, fans were a bit suspicious of this, with some of them suggesting that the other coaches might actually want Beamer to not get fired and stay in South Carolina. Meanwhile, others joked that this sort of praise is more of an indictment of Shane Beamer.

“Every week the other teams’ coaches talk so good about SC and Beamer. They’re hoping SC never fires him,” one fanjoked.

Before that upset loss to Missouri, Florida was difficult to stop, as the team’s rushing game, led by star running back Jadan Baugh, had trampled one top-notch team after another. However, against Missouri, that run game ground to a halt. This could happen again against South Carolina, as the Gamecocks have a very good run defense.

Baugh had rushed for 600 yards and 11 touchdowns on 83 carries for Jon Sumrall’s squad during the first four weeks, but he was held by Missouri to just 13 rushing yards on 12 attempts.

Meanwhile, their next opponents, the Gamecocks, have only allowed 100.4 rushing yards per game this year so far and held Kentucky running back CJ Baxter to 48 rushing yards and one touchdown on 13 carries last Saturday. This means that Jon Sumrall should not underestimate the Gamecocks.
