The Lord of the Rings fans have a lot to be excited about in the next year or two, but not least of which is the franchise’s return to the big screen with The Hunt for Gollum. Andy Serkis has been tapped to direct and star in the new Tolkien-inspired movie, which is currently set for release on December 18, 2027. The film will go head-to-head with Avengers: Secret Wars, which could potentially set up a bigger single-weekend event than Dunesday later this year, when Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three open on the same day. Another exciting release on the schedule for Lord of the Rings fans is the third season of the hit Prime Video series, The Rings of Power, but the show won’t be around as long this time around.
Prime Video has confirmed a bit of an unorthodox release schedule for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which will see the show return with the first four episodes of Season 3 on November 11. The fifth and sixth episodes will follow one week later on November 18, and the final two episodes of Season 3 will premiere on November 25 — just two weeks after the show premieres, the third season will be over and the wait for another season is back on. Before The Rings of Power Season 3 drops on Prime Video in less than 10 days, though, the streamer announced this afternoon that the first two seasons are now available to order on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD. In an era where so many companies are running away from physical media, Prime Video is doubling down on physical releases for one of its flagship fantasy properties.

Image via Amazon MGMPrime Video has yet to officially renew The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for Season 4, but the streamer did open a writers’ room for the new season earlier this year. All signs point to the show being officially picked up for Season 4 around the time Season 3 hits screens, as there are also reportedly plans to shoot Season 4 next year, which should allow for the show to return in 2028. This all depends on viewership, though, as the show will have to continue to prove it is worth such a huge investment.
