The Elder Scrolls 6 Title Officially Unveiled

More than eight years after its initial announcement, The Elder Scrolls 6 may finally have an official title, according to a new report from The Verge.

Bethesda first teased its next mainline fantasy RPG back in 2018, but updates have been frustratingly scarce ever since, leaving fans to speculate about everything from its setting to its story and potential release date. Even with Skyrim approaching its 15th anniversary, the studio has yet to offer a proper gameplay reveal or anything resembling a concrete launch window.

The lengthy silence has only made the wait more frustrating for longtime fans eager to return to Tamriel, especially as anticipation surrounding the sequel continues to build. However, this surprising new update may have finally shed some light on Bethesda’s plans for the next chapter in its beloved RPG franchise, including a potential title that could offer some major clues about what players can expect.

Sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans have reportedly confirmed that the long-awaited RPG will be titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, with an official reveal potentially coming as soon as November, coinciding with Skyrim’s 15th anniversary. The report also reveals some major details about the game’s setting in Hammerfell and its story, which will reportedly explore the mysterious history of the Elder Scrolls themselves.

According to The Verge‘s Tom Warren, Bethesda is preparing to formally unveil the title after years of referring to the project simply as The Elder Scrolls 6. However, fans shouldn’t necessarily expect a full gameplay showcase alongside the announcement. Warren says he’s “only expecting a name reveal next month and nothing more,” suggesting that a release date or substantial gameplay trailer may still be some way off.

Interestingly, Warren also reports that Bethesda has been showing off Sentinel gameplay behind closed doors over the past several months. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma reportedly saw a live playthrough in August, sharing her excitement on social media: “The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater.”

Sharma’s original post also referred to the game as “The Elder Scrolls VI: *********,” prompting fans to speculate about an eight-letter subtitle. Sentinel quickly emerged as one of the most popular theories, particularly given the long-running speculation surrounding Hammerfell as the game’s setting.

Longtime fans will recognize Sentinel as an established city in Hammerfell, the homeland of the Redguards. The area has previously appeared in games like The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online, although it hasn’t served as the primary setting of a modern mainline installment. If the report proves accurate, players could finally get to explore the region on a much larger scale.

Probably the most intriguing bit, however, concerns the game’s storyline. According to Warren, Sentinel will explore the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves, potentially uncovering long-hidden secrets surrounding the mysterious ancient artifacts that give the franchise its name. Although the Elder Scrolls have played important roles throughout the series, making their history a central focus could introduce some fascinating new lore.

For now, Bethesda hasn’t officially confirmed the reported title or story details, and there’s still no concrete release date. However, with The Elder Scrolls VI now the studio’s primary development focus, a November announcement could finally give fans something substantial to look forward to after eight years of waiting.
