The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns are preparing for another physical AFC North matchup, and Jared Verse is making it clear he has no intention of backing down.

The Browns defensive end addressed his upcoming matchup with Pittsburgh on Thursday, responding to comments from Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward and doubling down on his confidence ahead of Sunday’s game at Acrisure Stadium.

“I’m not worried about Cam. I’m not worried about their O-line. I’m not worried about nobody they got on their team,” Verse said, per a video shared by The Standard on X. “We’re out there to go dominate. We’re about to make Pittsburgh ours on Sunday.”

Jared Verse had alot to say about the Steelers today…. “I’m not worried about their O-line. I’m not worried about nobody they got on their whole team. We’re about to make Pittsburgh orange on Sunday.” Thoughts? 🤔 #Steelers #NFL https://t.co/kA8FS6bTJd

Verse’s comments add another chapter to an increasingly heated rivalry between the division opponents. Both teams enter the Week 8 matchup with 5-2 records, with Cleveland holding the tiebreaker after winning the first meeting, 27-24, in Week 4.

Jared Verse Responds to Cam Heyward

The latest exchange stems from comments Verse made following Cleveland’s victory over Pittsburgh on Oct. 1.

After that game, Verse criticized the Steelers’ offensive line and accused Pittsburgh of playing dirty. He specifically took issue with the double-teams and blocking tactics used against him, expressing frustration with the physicality of the matchup.

#Browns Jared Verse on the chippiness with the Steelers’ offensive line: “I was talking to them crazy. I was telling them, ‘You’re double-teaming, y’all sliding, y’all garbage.’ I don’t have any respect that plays too dirty and does too much extra stuff after the game.” https://t.co/9gzUMZEJh7

Verse also made it clear he was looking forward to facing Pittsburgh again, setting the stage for Sunday’s rematch.

Heyward addressed those remarks earlier this week during an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show.” The veteran defensive tackle pushed back against Verse’s complaints, pointing out that double-teams, chips and sliding protection schemes are standard parts of football.

“Double teaming, sliding, chipping, are those not allowed in our game?” Heyward said. “Yeah, I got the bruises to prove it. But we don’t whine about it, baby. It’s part of the game.”

Cam Heyward replies to Browns’ Jared Verse comments: “Double teaming, sliding, chipping, are those not allowed in our game? Yeah, I got the bruises to prove it. But we don’t whine about it, baby. It’s part of the game. And so, I’m looking forward to this game. It’s gonna be a fun game. Both teams are in position to do a lot of work in this division, as they say. The AFC North is on fire and I’m glad I’m in the kitchen because I like it that way. But those are words that were said and they will be addressed.” #Steelers #NFL

Heyward added that Verse’s comments would be addressed when the teams met again, making Thursday’s response another development in the buildup to Sunday’s game.

Verse, meanwhile, showed no interest in softening his stance. His latest remarks suggest the previous meeting remains fresh in his mind, and he appears eager to settle things on the field.

Steelers-Browns Rematch Has AFC North Implications

Beyond the verbal sparring, Sunday’s game carries significant weight in the AFC North standings.

Both Pittsburgh and Cleveland have won five of their first seven games, putting the division lead on the line in their second meeting of the season. The Browns have the advantage after their Week 4 victory, leaving the Steelers with an opportunity to even the season series and claim the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Pittsburgh will also be looking to defend its home field against a Cleveland team that already demonstrated it can win the matchup.

The teams’ recent comments have added another layer to an already physical divisional rivalry. Heyward has welcomed the challenge, while Verse has made his intentions clear ahead of the trip to Pittsburgh.

Now, both sides will have a chance to back up their words when the Steelers host the Browns on Sunday.
