Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Reacts to Leaked Report on Josh Simmons’ Meeting Exit

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are still sorting through a 20-3 Sunday night loss to the Seattle Seahawks, their first defeat of the season. The scoreboard was only part of the noise around the team. A report from within the locker room added to it. On Wednesday, Mahomes finally answered, and his words showed where his focus sits.

Patrick Mahomes addresses Josh Simmons meeting report

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Josh Simmons was told to leave a Chiefs team meeting last Wednesday. Head coach Andy Reid and Mahomes were both involved.

Simmons, the team’s 2025 first-round pick, was sitting with his feet up and said his back and hip were aching. Reid told him to get treatment from the trainers.

The exchange dragged on until Mahomes told Simmons to leave the room and get treated. Simmons apologized to Reid and team leaders afterward. The Chiefs put him on injured reserve the next day.

Simmons has missed the entire 2026 season with a back injury. Undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson has filled in at left tackle.

Mahomes spoke to reporters on Wednesday and stayed calm. The leak “doesn’t really bother me,” he said. His attention stays on the team and the moment inside the building.

“When you’re in this building, you don’t even really hear stuff like that. We’ve had the right conversations. Now we’re moving in the right direction. You have to have hard conversations at some point. I think we’ve had those. We’ve had great conversations after, and I think we’re moving in the right direction that will be great for the team.” Mahomes Explained.

He also pointed to the Chiefs’ culture of treating teammates like family. Tough talks, he said, set up better ones.

However, another storyline was drawing just as much attention, this one tied to the kicking game.

Mahomes’ coach addresses Justin Tucker signing as Harrison Butker slumps

While Mahomes addressed the Simmons situation, Andy Reid spent a significant portion of his press conference answering questions about the team’s decision to sign veteran kicker Justin Tucker.

Reid faced five straight minutes of questions this week about the Chiefs adding Tucker, according to a video shared by NFL insider Ari Meirov. One question specifically asked what message the signing sends to female fans of the team.

Reid answered, “He’s done his suspension, you know, and took care of that business there. I’ll leave it at that for you…He then closed the topic.

“But you know, I mean, the kid, he served a suspension. It’s been time. There’s been time involved with it. So that’s how I value it,” Reid added.

Tucker served a 10-game suspension in 2025 under the NFL’s personal conduct policy after allegations from 16 Baltimore-area massage therapists. He denies the claims and faced no criminal charges.

The move adds competition for Harrison Butker, who has made 11 of 16 field goals this season. He missed a 58-yarder as the first half ended and sent a 45-yarder wide right in the fourth quarter against Seattle. Reid has said the team must fix those problems.

The Chiefs sit at 5-1 and visit Denver on Sunday. The Broncos have won three straight, including a 17-14 win over the same Seahawks who handled Kansas City. Mahomes will need a sharper offense and steadier kicking in Denver.
