Texas A&M holds a 'slight advantage' to land 2027 5-star CB

While Texas A&M baseball’s Regional run is the focus in College Station this weekend, third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff hosted a talented list of 2027 prospects this weekend, headlined by the return of five-star cornerback John Meredith, who moved up his official visit date and will take an OV with the Texas Longhorns next weekend.

If you had to ask Elko and new cornerbacks coach, Bryant Gross-Armiento, receiving an early prediction to land John Meredith, combined with fellow five-star CB Joshua Dobson, is as good as it gets, but it’s clear that both players would be perfect fits in Elko’s defensive scheme, while Meredith remains the Aggies’ No. 1-ranked priority prospect.

While Meredith received a late prediction to land with the Longhorns, his relationship with the Aggie coaching staff has only strengthened after this weekend’s visit, and according to On3 (subscription required) recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong, the Aggies might be closer than ever to landing the blue-chip defensive back’s commitment soon.

“The Aggies have led a lot of his process, and I’d give them the slight advantage again over Texas. The Longhorns get Meredith back next weekend for an OV. Meredith feels comfortable around the Texas A&M staff, players and recruits and he loves the track record and plan the coaches have for him.”

The plan for Meredith is likely very similar to that of current freshman and former five-star cornerback Brandon Arrington, who, if it weren’t for the players in front of him, would likely start this season due to his elite speed, length, and physicality. While Alabama and Ohio State will also receive official visits, it looks like Meredith’s commitment will come down to Texas A&M and the Longhorns.
