Steelers' Drew Allar contract drama gets more complicated after Raiders update

The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ contract standoff with Drew Allar just got more complicated, as two more NFL teams have reached deals with rookie quarterbacks, while the Steel City brand of football is left grasping at straws just days from training camp.

The Arizona Cardinals have signed third-round pick Carson Beck to a rookie deal, and most recently, the Las Vegas Raiders signed No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza to his rookie deal. That leaves the Steelers with Allar and the Los Angeles Rams with Ty Simpson as the only two teams with unsigned rookie quarterbacks.

Allar, selected by the Steelers with the 76th overall pick in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, is involved in a contract stalemate over guaranteed money, the signing bonus payout timeline, and potentially offset language.

Rookie holdouts are extremely rare, and it feels more likely that a deal will get done soon after Beck and Mendoza received new deals. But it’s more concerning for Allar, as he can’t participate in training camp without a rookie contract in place, which would be a detriment to his early development.
