Star Trek's Next Frontier Begins The Franchise's Dark New Era

Recently, DC Comics announced that 2027 would be the year of Wonder Woman. While Diana Prince has been one of the greatest comic book characters of all time, promoting her is a big deal. Sometimes people forget how phenomenal she is, and a reminder is needed. That wasn’t the only good news. Elite writer Stephanie Williams will be writing a six-story arc of Wonder Woman in 2027.

“Diana has my whole heart, so getting to come back to her world after Wonder Woman and Matriarch feels like coming home, only this time with a longer runway.”- Stephanie Williams

For the uninformed, this won’t be the first time Stephanie Williams has written Wonder Woman. She wrote a story in Wonder Woman: Black and Gold, filled in for writer Tom King twice during his series, and she wrote the 2026 Wonder Woman Annual: Wonder War that highlighted the Matriarch. That shows Williams isn’t a stranger to taking on the duties of Diana. Nevertheless, this, as Yelena Belova would say, is big potatoes.

This Is A Big Deal For Stephanie Williams And Black Creators

Because Wonder Woman is among the most iconic characters of any genre, the job of creating stories for her as her 90th anniversary approaches is special. DC Comics making it a point to call 2027 the Year of Wonder shows that everything coming up for the goddess should be noted. As fantastic as all of that is, Stephanie Williams writing a six-issue story is bigger than comics. It’s a call to all Black creators.

In one of her posts, Williams wrote, “My audacity was built brick by brick,” and it perfectly illustrates that she took the disrespect of the lack of coverage and used it as fuel. She didn’t back down or stop creating because she was ignored. She kept it moving and succeeded. Black creators will look at this year and see how it started and what it led to, because she didn’t back down.

Earlier this year, Stephanie Williams was nominated for an Eisner Award. She was the first Black woman to be nominated, and only the second Black person in the award’s history. Sadly, the coverage of that wasn’t big. Now, months later, she’s getting the opportunity to further cement her name among the greats by creating a story for Wonder Woman.
