Rudi Völler convinced Julian Nagelsmann will be successful again

German national team sporting director Rudi Völler played an instrumental role in bringing Julian Nagelsmann to the head coaching position with the DFB.

Watching his hand-selected manager fail at the World Cup was tough for Völler, but he still believes that Nagelsmann has successful days ahead of him.

“Following what was a disappointing World Cup exit for absolutely everyone, Julian’s decision commands our respect. He is taking responsibility even where he would have preferred to continue shaping the team, and he is placing the national team above his own interests,” Völler said in a statement released by the DFB. “Of course, we all would have wished for a different outcome to the tournament and a stronger performance from our team. But Julian is and remains an excellent coach, and I am convinced he will continue to be successful in his career. I am sincerely grateful to him for the trusting and good-humoured collaboration that we enjoyed.”

No doubt, Völler will continue to back Nagelsmann, but the former Bayern Munich coach does need to do some soul-searching. After being blown out in Bavaria and with the German national team, Nagelsmann is going to have to prove once again the he is a good coach before he earns the trust of the masses.
