Miniature recreations of England footballers have been put on display on top of a village’s postbox to mark the 2026 World Cup.
Woollen versions of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford have been made by knitting enthusiasts in the Warwickshire village of Studley.
The artwork from The Studley Stitchers features an England shirt and the three players, all standing on a circular grassy patch holding white footballs, with four more at Kane’s feet.
Group member Jan Platt told BBC Radio CWR scores will be kept by adding a knitted ball to the display everytime a player gets a goal.
She said she had wanted to do something different to having a load of footballers hugging each other.
“I just thought the England shirt at the back would set it all off as a backdrop and then we needed something to keep score.”
She said a new ball would be added next to Kane every time the Three Lions striker scored a goal at the tournament.
As of Friday afternoon, he was joint-third in the Golden Boot rankings with five goals after netting twice in England’s 2-1 victory against DR Congo on Wednesday.
“It just came to me, when I was knitting a football, that we could use the footballs to keep score,” Platt added.
The display was due to be placed on the postbox on Station Road on Friday.
Platt, a retired teacher, previously made a postbox topper of England goalkeeper Hampton, who is from the village, and her teammates to mark their success during the Women’s Euro 2025 tournament.
She had made a similar display two years before that ahead of the Women’s World Cup and Hampton visited the village to see it for herself.
