Marco Rose conceded Bournemouth will not get points in the Premier League for simply “looking good” after their winless start continued against Liverpool on Sunday.
Rose watched on as his team were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool on Sunday, with Alexander Isak’s 57th-minute finish from close range proving to be the difference at Vitality Stadium.
This is the ninth time in their history that Bournemouth have failed to win any of their opening five matches of a league campaign (D3 L2), and second in the Premier League.
Bournemouth also lost a Premier League match without scoring for the first time since December 2025 against Everton (also 1-0), leaving them 17th in the table.
Rose’s side arrived into the clash against former boss Andoni Iraola with confidence, having started their first European campaign with a 2-1 away win over Real Sociedad.
However, their troubles in the top flight continued, and despite dominating for large parts, Rose said a lapse in concentration at the back proved costly for his team.
“You couldn’t really see that one team deserved to win,” Rose said. “We had to work really hard to get chances, but we conceded an easy goal, and then you lose this kind of game.
“In both boxes you have to be ready and present. We put more balls into the box than Liverpool, but in the end they scored in one situation.
“Sometimes we panic in tight situations – we have to be clearer in both boxes. I think we are fit and in the end we could bring more energy into the game.
“We went for the equaliser. It’s disappointing because, if you see the five games we have played, there was every opportunity to win, but right now we have three points.
“We will analyse the situation. It’s the details, being sharper, being more clinical in both boxes, because all the things around us, like attitude, look good.
“But you get no points for looking good.”

This was the first time Bournemouth failed to attempt 10+ shots in a Premier League home game in 2026 (nine), last doing so in December 2025 against Everton.
Bournemouth were only able to generate an expected goals (xG) total of 0.76, compared to Liverpool’s tally of 1.57 from their 12 attempts at Djordje Petrovic’s goal.
“It is disappointing to lose this kind of game when it is really tight. But we defended one situation not well enough,” Rose added.
“We didn’t use our chances today and, in the end, we lost the game in one situation. We have to be sharper in both boxes.
“You don’t get points for playing well, that is what we see. The fact is, we have three points after five games when we could win every game.
“We have to speak about it, we don’t have to change things in general – we just have to change details, but we need to change those quickly.
“We played a good game against Liverpool, who have some more days to recover. We looked fit, even at the end, we were the team that went for a goal.
“It’s about details, and right now it is really disappointing, but I am quite confident we can change the situation points-wise.”
