He’s come in for a bit of stick for an uninspiring start to the season, but this showed he’s still got it. Multiple sharp reaction saves as he was peppered a bit throughout, although one could argue that the two goals could have been prevented.

Looks great when he builds up a head of steam bombing on, albeit on rare occasions tonight. Lost the run of Carvalho for the second goal.

Incredibly unfortunate to have fallen foul of the worldwide ban on overhead kicks that landed at 8.09pm. Strong in the crowd to eventually get his goal. Unfortunate to slip for the first and maybe could have disrupted the pass through for number two.

Didn’t disgrace himself against better opposition. Should have scored a header in the first half.

Up against it with little support from his winger and backed off too much for the opening goal, but fared relatively well otherwise.

Got stuck in but naturally a second off the pace of the Premier League midfielders, the area Brentford showed their superiority the most. Decent long-range effort went narrowly wide in the second half.

Ran his legs off and looked very capable on a tough night. Perhaps overambitious at times. Really shone with his wicked set-piece delivery.

A real threat down the right as Reading enjoyed spells of pressure in the first half, and his long throws were a real asset also.

A busy start which faded in the second half. Showed he’s good enough to be on the League One bench at least.

Didn’t really get a chance to take on his man and Reading struggled to create much down his flank.

Never going to have a huge impact for large spells of a game where his team had under 30% possession. Two defining moments saw him battle well to force a good save, before he failed to get a shot away from a similar position later in the first half.

So much better this season and a great left-back option when behind, sadly unable to make a big impact in attack.

Ran around fairly well and helped forge Fraser’s long-range strike.

Not much to his performance, drifted inside too much in the scant moments of pressure late on.

Looked a bit wild up against Thiago but won a couple of battles.

Not on long enough to get a rating.
