Premier League releases statement on why Haaland’s goal against Man Utd was given

The Premier League has explained why Erling Haaland’s strike for Manchester City against Manchester United was allowed to stand.

Haaland tucked Antoine Semenyo’s cross into the net in the second half of the game at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The linesman immediately flagged it for offside.

But following a lengthy VAR check, referee Michael Oliver was advised to give the goal.

A statement on Premier League Match Centre’s X account, said: “VAR checked the referee’s call of no goal for offside – and determined that Haaland was in an onside position and recommended that the goal was awarded.
