Prediction: Napoli vs Arsenal

Turning their attention to Champions League duties on Wednesday night, Arsenal will travel to Italy when they meet Napoli.

Ahead of a stacked midweek schedule from across the continent, there are plenty of attractive Champions League betting promotions available.

Verdict: Kai Havertz over 0.5 shots on target

Starting with the hosts, while Napoli might have opened up the 2026/27 campaign with a rugged 2-0 victory away at Genoa on August 22nd, Max Allegri’s men have come crashing back down to earth in a concerning fashion. Last seen over the weekend suffering an infamous collapse away at reigning Italian champions Inter Milan, the pressure could already be mounting on the former Juventus boss. Eventually falling to a rollercoaster 3-2 defeat at the San Siro, Napoli have suffered consecutive defeats across all competitions for the first time since back in January. Signing off August with a 2-1 loss at home against fellow Champions League outfit Como, Allegri’s side will be bracing themselves for another stern examination when they open their European adventure on Wednesday night.

In what is a huge blow for Napoli, Scotland international Scott McTominay is set to have a minor heart procedure and will not feature over the next month. Likewise, both still recovering from respective knee injuries, Alessandro Buongiorno and Luca Marianucci remain on the sidelines.

Former Manchester City talisman Kevin De Bruyne could make a maiden start of the season on Wednesday night. Making his move from Manchester United a permanent one over the summer and notching consecutive Serie A strikes, Norwegian marksman Rasmus Hojlund will lead the line here.

As for the visitors, making real history last season as they got their hands on a first domestic crown since back in 2004, Arsenal have only further cemented themselves as England’s new poster boys. Last seen over the weekend clinching a stellar 2-1 victory against bitter local rivals Chelsea, the Gunners have only continued to shine on either side of the summer interval. Despite suffering the most public of Champions League heartbreak back in May, Mikel Arteta’s men are universally regarded as a standout contender once again this year. Winning each of their opening three Premier League appearances and one of just two clubs who can boast a 100% start to proceedings, Arsenal should be excited by a trip to Rome in midweek. Likewise, the Gunners also cruised their way to a routine 3-0 victory when they last met Napoli for a Europa League quarter-final showdown back in April 2019.

All still dealing with respective injury issues and once again missing out against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, Arsenal will travel to Italy without the defensive trio of William Saliba, Cristhian Mosquera and Dutch international Jurrien Timber.

Bagging a second Premier League strike against his former employers on Sunday afternoon, ex-Chelsea star Kai Havertz should once again be deployed in a false nine role. Completing a blockbuster £75million move from Newcastle over the summer, Bruno Guimaraes could be handed a first Champions League start.

Napoli vs Arsenal Key Factors to Consider

  • When Napoli and Arsenal last met for a Europa League quarter-final showdown back in April 2019, the Gunners claimed a 3-0 aggregate victory.
  • In fact, Arsenal have won three of their four European battles against Napoli.
  • Including a 2-1 victory against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, Arsenal have won all of their opening three Premier League appearances by an aggregate score of 7-2.
  • Napoli have suffered back-to-back defeats across all competitions for the first time since back in January.
  • Wednesday’s hosts have registered just a trio of clean sheets from their previous 12 competitive matchups across all formats.
  • Along with a Community Shield strike against Manchester City last month, German international Kai Havertz has registered three goals in his first four domestic appearances across all competitions.

While the Gunners might have suffered the most public of Champions League heartbreak back in May, Arsenal are widely regarded as a standout European contender this time around. Laying down a domestic marker over the weekend as they secured a 2-1 victory against historic rivals Chelsea, Arteta’s side have embarked on another public flurry. One of just two clubs among England’s elite who can boast a 100% start to proceedings, the reigning Premier League champions should be relishing a blockbuster trip to Naples.
