Trump attacks LeBron James after his 76ers’ debut: ‘Disrespects our Country’

6926ac2ba4552d6923f1a3aa10fde349 Trump attacks LeBron James after his 76ers’ debut: ‘Disrespects our Country’Donald Trump has more to say about LeBron James, and it’s not positive.

In a Truth Social post, the president called James a “total disgrace” and demanded an apology over a viral video from the 76ers–Knicks game on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

In the video posted to social media by @alexdaysports, the 41-year-old James is shown stretching, mimicking shooting a basketball and practicing his golf swing during the national anthem as his teammates stood still. The game marked James’s debut with the Sixers. Before tip-off, the Knicks raised a banner for their first NBA championship in 53 years and received their championship rings

The video had drawn more than 310,000 views as of Thursday afternoon after Tickpick posted it.

“While listening to our National Anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country!” Trump wrote on Thursday. “I said right from the beginning, he’s no good, a TOTAL DISGRACE. LeBron James should apologize to all of those Great American Warriors and Heroes who died for the American flag, and all that our Country stands for!”

James had yet to respond as of early Thursday afternoon. The 76ers host the Cavaliers at 7 p.m.

This isn’t the first time Trump has attacked the four-time NBA champion and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

In July, Trump said James, who endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016, Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024, might be “a racist.”

In responding to a question from Peter Doocy of Fox News about James and Michael Jordan, Trump said: “Well, Michael Jordan’s a guy that’s a friend of mine — play golf with him. He’s a really good guy. And I think LeBron is — maybe he’s a racist. But maybe he doesn’t like Trump, I don’t know. But I only like people that like me. So I would say Michael Jordan all the way.”

In the wake of that comment, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith defended James.

“It’s embarrassing,” Smith said in a video posted on YouTube. “You’re the commander-in-chief, you’re the president of the United States, and you’re going to come out and you’re going to call this Black man, who’s universally recognized as one of the greatest athletes who have ever lived, who has been an upstanding citizen, somebody I don’t get along with, and I’m still willing to concede he’s great.”

As for Trump’s comments about disrespecting the military, he has his own history in that regard.

Trump, who received five deferments from the Vietnam War, famously questioned late Senator John McCain’s status as a war hero by saying, “I like people who weren’t captured,” and reportedly called Americans who died in combat “suckers” and “losers.”

In terms of Trump’s current war in Iran, 21 U.S. service members have died and 865 have been injured since the start of the war on Feb. 26, per the latest Pentagon Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) report published Oct. 15.
