Nicholas Hoult has been one of Hollywood’s most underrated stars for much of the 21st century, and his upcoming slate of movies and TV shows is sure to bolster his stellar career. The British actor broke out in 2007 for his role in Skins, and wound up becoming a fixture of major blockbusters just five years later.
He’s played Beast in Fox’s four prequel X-Men movies, the War Boy named Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road, Lex Luthor in Superman, and been part of other notable big-budget films like Clash of the Titans and Jack the Giant Slayer. But Hoult has also spread his wings to deliver memorable performances in prestige projects like The Favourite, Juror , and Nosferatu.
Hoult’s best movies have allowed him to find success at the box office, with critics, and at awards shows thanks to this approach. Houlty has even gone to TV to make The Great, which made him a Golden Globe and Emmy nominee. Tackling smaller projects and major IP continue to define his future, even after Hoult exited season 2 of HBO’s Harry Potter series.
The world is about to see a lot more of Hoult throughout the final months of 2026, while his 2027 slate is shaping up to be even bigger. He’s got multiple movies and shows in the works that are in various stages of production but nonetheless exciting.

The next movie for Hoult only requires his voice, as he’s part of the voice cast for CoComelon: The Movie. It marks the first feature film for the children’s animated YouTube series. Moonbug Entertainment has partnered with DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures to bring the popular world and characters to the big screen at last.
Hoult is one of many major stars attached to CoComelon: The Movie, as he’ll play Boba, the stuffed teddy bear of the series’ main kid, JJ (Connor Esterson), who gets trapped in the land of Lost and Found by Princess Harmony. SZA plays Princess Harmony, while Ike Barinholtz, Rhys Darby, Sarah Sherman, Cristo Fernández, and more fill out the supporting cast. Camden Brooks, Olivia London Leyva, and Aerina Park DeBoer take over the roles of Cody, Nina, and CeCe.
CoComelon: The Movie is the first of Hoult’s 2027 releases. It is slated to debut in theaters on February 19, 2027.

Two years after making his debut as Lex Luthor in Superman, Hoult returns to the DC Universe as the villain for James Gunn’s follow-up, Man of Tomorrow. The movie forces Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex to work together to take down a greater threat: Brainiac (Lars Eidinger). It’s Hoult’s third DCU appearance after a cameo in Peacemaker season 2.
Details on Hoult’s role as Lex are still largely kept under wraps. It is known that he’ll wear a powerful Warsuit, ripped straight out of the comics. Set photos have shown him and Superman fighting while the Warsuit is on.
Hoult and Corenswet are far from the only DCU veterans returning in Man of Tomorrow‘s cast. Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), María Gabriela de Faría (The Engineer), Aaron Pierre (John Stewart), Milly Alcock (Supergirl), and Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle) are all confirmed. New additions include Adria Arjona, Andre Royo, Matthew Lillard, and Sinqua Walls.
The superhero event film is slated to hit theaters on July 9, 2027, and filming is already complete. Man of Tomorrow is poised to be a key release for the growing DCU. It should not be the last time Hoult plays Lex, even if no additional appearances beyond it are confirmed.

Hoult is heading back to TV thanks to a new UK comedy on Hulu and Disney+. Titled Mosquito, the series was announced in December 2025 after Disney gave it a six-episode straight-to-series order. The show comes from Oscar-nominated writer Tony McNamara (Poor Things) and revolves around a young married couple.
Hoult plays the male lead, while Daisy Edgar-Jones (Twisters) is set to play the female lead. It’s a reunion for Hoult and McNamara after The Great, which ran for three seasons on Hulu. The new series is expected to have a similar comedic tone but tackle a different subject matter: how daily life in marriage reveals who a person really is.
Disney’s announcement for Mosquito revealed that filming would begin in 2026, but production has yet to commence as of early October. The show does not have a release window on Disney+ internationally or Hulu domestically, but it figures to be a 2027 release at this point.

Hoult is reuniting with another previous creative with his upcoming movie Cry to Heaven. The movie is an adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1982 novel about two Italian boys, Tonio Treschi and Guido Maffeo, and their pursuits of opera. Cry to Heaven is directed and written by Tom Ford, who Hoult worked with before on 2009’s A Simple Man.
Hoult leads the cast as Tonio, while his Nosferatu co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (who worked with Ford on Nocturnal Animals) tackles Guido. The film’s star-studded cast includes Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, George MacKay, Paul Bettany, Owen Cooper, Hunter Schafer, Thandiwe Newton, Daryl McCormack, Cassian Bilton, Lux Pascal, Julianne Moore, and the acting debut of singer Adele.
Filming for Cry to Heaven took place in early 2026, wrapping in late March. The movie does not yet have an official distributor, so a release date is not confirmed. With production already complete, Cry to Heaven could very easily come out sometime in 2027, perhaps with a festival launch in hopes of becoming an Oscar contender.

The Servant (TBD)

The Servant is the most recent project Hoult has joined. It is the next feature film from Ammonite director Francis Lee and a reimagining of the 1963 Joseph Losey movie of the same name. The Servant is a psychological thriller in 1950s New York about the power dynamic between Tony, an entitled Brit, and Barrett, his manservant.
Hoult is set to play Tony, while two-time Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo is attached as Barrett. Noah Jupe and Emma Corrin were also announced to be part of the cast when the project was revealed ahead of the package going on sale at Cannes 2026. It was never reported whether the rights were sold.
The Servant was announced with a plan for Lee, Hoult, and the rest of the cast to begin filming in January 2027. No release date is set, but it likely won’t be ready until 2028 unless it comes together quickly in post. That stretches Nicholas Hoult upcoming movies even further into the future.
