The Los Angeles Lakers have made some incredible moves over the past 24 hours, landing multiple players who can help Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in the long term.
It’s uncertain whether the Lakers want to keep going out there and making the necessary moves to improve on both sides of the basketball court, but they’ll have to get creative now with limited money.
From the sound of things, the Lakers were actually interested in making another splash at some point this offseason, with a new report suggesting that they had a lot of interest in making a deal for Jalen Duren.
Because they decided to go after Walker Kessler, there’s now a chance Duren will return to the Detroit Pistons due to the Lakers’ decision to trade for Kessler.
“Duren was told by the Lakers in the meeting that they view him as a maximum-salary level player, according to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing deliberations,” Sam Amick wrote.
The Lakers’ interest in Duren was probably genuine, as it was evident that they needed a center who can make plays next to Doncic.
However, now that they did so with Kessler, it’s not only unrealistic but almost impossible to land Duren, so that’s one team the Pistons won’t have to worry about poaching their young star center, who seems to be one of the more polarizing players on the market at the moment.
