Phantom Blade Zero: Where to Find Quick Hand Zhang In Every Location
Phantom Blade Zero‘s resident black market merchant and relic raider is literally all over the map. Quick Hand Zhang (or Quick Hand Zhangs, as the game’s lore implies) sets up shop in five different locations throughout the Wulin, and you’ll want to find them all.
While you can technically start collecting relics before you find Zhang’s hidey-holes, you won’t actually get a list to work from until you find him on each map. Returning every relic musters some excellent items which can’t be obtained any other way, and appears to play into Phantom Blade Zero‘s good ending and its exclusive “Final Battle.”
Quick Hand Zhang Location 1: Crimson Forest
You’re unlikely to miss this location, with Zhang’s cage appearing on the main path through an early section of Crimson Forest. Responding to his cry for, you can free Zhang using the winch on a wooden platform above. Simply walk up the cliff-side path ahead and into the cave, then emerge above; he’ll call out again when you’re in the right spot.
Once Zhang is down—and after you grab the golden treasure chest on the platform below the winch—speak with Quick Hand to set up another meeting at his outpost in the nearby Thieves’ Camp. Once there and after triggering the crane bell memory, head past the tents and climb up the wall on your right to enter Zhang’s first hideout.
Stop and chat with a thief right outside to reveal a handy clue about these hideouts: there will always be throwing knives strung with coins in their vicinity. These are usually embedded in walls and other surfaces with a telltale reflective glimmer, even visible in the dark.
Quick Hand Zhang Location 2: Village of Lu
Quick Hand Zhang’s Village of Lu hideout is one of the easier locations to miss, only because of the region’s generally scattered layout and the slippery slope found right outside; if you happen to slide down it by mistake, the way back up to Zhang can be a bit of a chore. That throwing knife tip comes in handy here.
You can find a knife if you head up the creek underneath Lu’s broken covered bridge at a wooden-framed entrance on your left. Head through it down the tunnel and grapple up to the ledge, where Zhang’s hideout just past the bell above.
Quick Hand Zhang Location 3: Pangzhen
This sprawling city technically includes two Quick Hand Zhang hideout locations, but the second one will essentially be blocked until you’re nearing Phantom Blade Zero‘s final area. To get to it, you’ll first have to defeat boss Wu Xuan.
Once he’s defeated, turn to face the two large drums around his arena and make an immediate sharp right, where you can spot a knife on the left side of a doorway. Head through and climb up the wooden planks and you’ll spot a bell inside a house. You can access Zhang’s hideout down the hatch next to the bell.
Quick Hand Zhang Location 4: Meigu Lake
Meigu Lake is one of the more striking regions of Phantom Blade Zer, with Soul navigating its waters in a speedy steam-powered boat while stopping off at various islands and coastline outposts. To get to Zhang, prepare to fight a number of Blackwater Crew enemies along the way.
The island with Zhang’s hideout is north-east of the Sha-Chi Tower close the start of the Meigu Lake region. Once docked at the Meigu Village West Dock bell, you’ll spot numerous Blackwater crewmembers and Drowned Thieves. Fight through all of them and keep moving forward onto the splintered pier with a treasure chest.
A section of that pier will be missing, but you traverse it by leaping onto the individual poles jutting out of the water. It’s likely that you haven’t seen these poles and their related mechanic until now, but it will crop up a few times in the game, notably during an important Pangzhen boss fight.
Quick Hand Zhang Location 5: Mirage Estate
The last area of Phantom Blade Zero is technically part of Pangzhen itself. Mirage Estate is the game’s most elaborate legacy dungeon, packed with ambushing enemies and boss fights. Zhang’s final hideout is located near the Shaded Bamboo Path bell, fairly early in your journey through the Estate.
From that bell, drop and head to the right, fighting your way through enemies and ambushes on the covered bridge, then enter an elegant room with a small set of stairs tucked away to your immediate right. Head down and continue outside, then keep going downstairs until you see a large stone stairway past some burning debris. Zhang’s lair will be up those stairs and past the bell above.
After finding Zhang’s fifth hideout, the quest The Wily Hare’s Three Dens will autocomplete, but you’ll still have to retrieve all of his missing relics to complete Quick Hand’s Request and ding the Lost and Found achievement in Phantom Blade Zero. Happy hunting!
