Campbell previously led the slasher horror franchise as Sydney Prescott, the young survivor of the original Ghostface attacks who found herself targeted again and again by people donning the mask, often with motives from her family’s troubled past. After memorably being absent from Scream VI due to a pay dispute with producers, she returned for Scream 7, which also shifted the focus back to Sydney and her family for its story following the firing of Melissa Barrera and exit of Jenna Ortega.
In a recent interview with AP for Netflix’s Black Doves season 2, Campbell was asked about the potential plans for Scream 8. The longtime franchise star confirmed she is officially returning for the next installment in the slasher series, teasing that while “I can’t tell you anything about” the sequel, it is “in the pipeline.”
