OAU confirms death of final-year student, police begin investigation

Oluwaseun was subsequently taken to the OAU Health Centre, where a medical doctor certified him dead.

The institution said it was concerned about the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and had handed relevant information and items recovered from the scene over to the police to aid the investigation.

“The police have commenced investigation into the circumstances of the incident,” the university said.

University Offers Condolences

The Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, expressed condolences to Oluwaseun’s family, friends, classmates and colleagues following the student’s death.

Bamire also expressed concern for members of the university community who may be emotionally affected by the incident.

The university management urged students and other members of the institution’s community to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information or speculation while the police investigation is ongoing.

The appeal comes as the institution awaits further findings from the authorities investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

Bamire reaffirmed the commitment of the university management to the welfare of its staff and students, stressing that students should not feel compelled to face overwhelming challenges alone.

“No student should feel that he or she has to confront overwhelming difficulties alone,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

The university did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding Oluwaseun’s death, saying the police investigation was underway.
