NY Mets announce lineup vs Miami Marlins for Monday game

The Mets offense delivered when it mattered on Sunday afternoon against the Giants.

After being limited to four hits and held scoreless across the first seven innings, Brett Baty knocked a pinch-hit solo home run and Bo Bichette put the Mets ahead with a three-run blast as the Mets grabbed the series with a 4-2 victory.

Coming off back-to-back series wins against the Rays and Giants, the Mets are now headed back to Florida for a series with the Marlins beginning with a 1:10 p.m. Labor Day matinee on Monday at loanDepot Park.

It is the final series between the two NL East foes, with the Marlins holding a 6-4 edge through the opening 10 games. The Marlins (72-72) still have an outside chance of making the playoffs. They are four games back of the Diamondbacks for the final NL Wild Card spot.

Meanwhile, the Mets (65-78) are closing in on the Nationals (67-78) for fourth place in the division. The Mets enter Monday one game back for that spot.

Jonah Tong will return to the Mets rotation for Monday’s game against the Marlins.

Tong appeared in three games for the Mets in late May and early June, going 1-0 with four earned runs allowed in 10 innings (3.60 ERA) and a 1.50 WHIP. He is 5-6 with a 4.54 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 126 strikeouts in 107 innings with Triple-A Syracuse this season.

The Marlins will also have a 23-year-old on the mound in right-hander Eury Perez, who is 7-10 with a 3.72 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 25 starts this season. Perez is coming off one of his roughest outings of the season, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and three walks in 4⅔ innings against the Royals.
