The National Universities Commission (NUC) has authorised the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, Lagos State, to offer 34 undergraduate programmes ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval followed an assessment by panels of experts who evaluated the university’s human and physical resources to determine its readiness to deliver the proposed courses.
According to a statement made available to The PUNCH, the commission communicated its decision in a letter dated October 23, 2026, signed on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu.
The university has been granted permission to run the programmes on a full-time basis, with an admission quota of 50 students for each course. This brings the total number of approved admission slots to 1,700 across the 34 programmes.
The commission clarified that the authorisation covers only full-time study. Any plan to introduce part-time programmes would require a separate application for consideration and approval.
The development marks a significant step towards the commencement of academic activities at the newly established institution, which was founded in November 2025.
FUSTECH currently uses some facilities and infrastructure at the Epe campus of Lagos State University (LASU) to support its operations.
In August, LASU management explained that the arrangement was temporary and intended to facilitate the new university’s take-off through institutional cooperation. The partnership is expected to remain in place until FUSTECH moves to its permanent location.
