NSUK Denies Reports of Official Handover of FMC Keffi as Teaching Hospital

The management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has dismissed reports claiming that the Federal Government has concluded the process of releasing the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, to serve as the university’s teaching hospital.

In a statement issued by the Acting Information and Protocol Officer, Jaafar Abdullahi Abubakar, the university described the reports circulating on various media platforms as inaccurate and premature, clarifying that the process has not been completed.

According to the statement, although discussions with the Federal Government and other relevant authorities have been positive, the administrative modalities and statutory procedures required for the transition of the facility are still being finalised.

“The University wishes to clarify that although engagements with the Federal Government and other relevant authorities have been positive and encouraging, the modalities and administrative processes for the release and transition of the facility are still being finalized by the appropriate authorities,” the statement said.

It added that any claim suggesting the process had been concluded or that the facility had been officially handed over to the university was false.

NSUK explained that the redesignation of a Federal Medical Centre as a university teaching hospital is governed by established statutory, administrative and inter-governmental procedures, all of which must be completed before any formal announcement can be made.

The university noted that under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, it remains committed to strengthening its College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences through the provision of quality clinical training facilities and institutional frameworks that will support medical education, research and healthcare service delivery.

It said management is working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure that all necessary regulatory requirements are fulfilled before the proposed teaching hospital becomes operational.

The university, therefore, urged students, staff, prospective students, stakeholders and members of the public to disregard unverified reports and rely only on official communications from NSUK for authentic information on the proposed teaching hospital and other institutional developments.

It assured stakeholders that an official announcement would be made once all outstanding modalities and regulatory processes have been successfully concluded.
