The Detroit Red Wings have been listening to offers from other teams for star center Dylan Larkin. Larkin surprised many by stating months ago that he wants to leave the Red Wings. It appears that the Philadelphia Flyers checked in, but weren’t able to reach a deal for him.

“The Philadelphia Flyers reportedly checked in on Dylan Larkin but were turned away after being told they weren’t on his list of acceptable destinations, per (The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz),” NHL reporter Gino Hard posted to X. “Minnesota, Vegas, and Florida remain his preferred landing spots, though none have been willing to meet the Red Wings’ asking price to this point.”

During the 2025-26 season, Larkin was very productive for the Red Wings. The center posted 67 points in 74 games. Detroit ended up missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Flyers pivoting after reportedly losing out on Dylan Larkin

The Flyers are reportedly looking at several other players, now that Larkin may be out of reach. One is Minnesota Wild star Quinn Hughes.

“Hughes had a great relationship with Philadelphia Flyers coach Rick Tocchet in Vancouver and is good friends with Trevor Zegras. The Flyers were interested in Hughes last season before he was dealt to the Minnesota Wild but were informed the Vancouver Canucks had no interest in moving him here,” The Athletic reported.

Philadelphia would have to meet certain criteria in order to nab Hughes.

“If you’re the Flyers, any Hughes trade would naturally have to include a contract extension, considering they would have to part with some future assets, at minimum. If Hughes wants a three-year extension — which would make him an unrestricted free agent in 2030, the same year as his brother, Jack, in New Jersey, would become a free agent — I would guess that would be palatable for the club,” The Athletic added.

Philadelphia made the Stanley Cup Playoffs this last season. The Flyers won a playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, before losing to the Carolina Hurricanes.
