New York Giants QB Jaxson Dart leaves Rams game with injury

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart left the team’s Monday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Rams with a left knee injury on the opening drive at SoFi Stadium.

Dart was sandwiched by Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart as he tried to throw on third-and-8. Safety Kam Curl broke up the pass. Dart immediately clutched his left knee and stayed on the ground as trainers checked him. Players from both sidelines took a knee.

The second-year quarterback eventually rose and walked off under his own power, though he was limping, and headed to the blue medical tent as New York punted. The severity of the injury was not immediately clear.

Dart entered the game coming off one of the best nights of his young career. In last week’s 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys, he completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns and added 54 rushing yards. It was the Giants’ first win under head coach John Harbaugh and their first of two straight primetime games to open the season.

Backup Jameis Winston was warming as Dart was evaluated and eventually headed to the locker room. New York will wait for further updates before knowing whether Dart can return against the 0-1 Rams.
